Minneapolis Lock Rekey Services and More

Minneapolis Lock & Key was founded more than a century ago in 1915, and we’ve been committed to serving our community with professional lock rekey services ever since.

A family-owned and operated business, we believe that quality workmanship should be at the heart of all we do, which is why we’re always honing our craft. We often encounter challenging lock, key, and safe issues. With teamwork, research, and plenty of elbow grease, we’ve solved some of the most challenging lock and key conundrums.

These are just a few of the lock issues we’ve solved over the years:

1.    Lost Gun Cabinet Key

Losing a gun cabinet key can be frustrating, but this is especially true if the gun cabinet is more than a few decades old. Trying to break into the gun cabinet yourself will only end up damaging the cabinet and making it less safe or even unusable. We can replace your old key so you’re able to safely store and access your guns again. We recently replaced a key for a 50-year-old gun cabinet in less than an hour.

2.    Repaired Car Key

If you’ve ever tried to replace a car key from a dealership, you know how expensive replacement keys can be. We once had a customer stop by with a badly bent Fiat 500 flip key that had been used to pry something. The key would not fit into the car’s locks or ignition even after the owner tried tapping it straight again with a hammer. With replacement keys running about $150, the owner contacted us in a last-ditch effort. Much to the gratitude of the Fiat owner, our locksmith was able to repair the damaged key for only $15.

3.    Vintage Camper Keys

There’s nothing quite like the charm of a vintage camper, and if you can get a good deal on one, even better! But what if the seller has lost the keys? Making new keys for an old camper is easy with our residential key creation services. We recently made replacement keys for a 50-year-old camper in less than 30 minutes.

4.    Special Orders

We often encounter Twin Cities residents looking for products they’ve been told would need to be special ordered and save them the trouble. Recently, we served a homeowner who had been told her double-sided keys would require a special order. But with our expertise and equipment, we were able to cut them and have them ready in about five minutes!

In another case, we had a customer who desperately needed a copy of their Yamaha motorcycle key. They’d almost given up when they tried Minneapolis Lock & Key and found exactly what they needed in stock!

5.    Lock Replacement

Do you live in an older home that requires different keys for the front and back door? We recently replaced a 100-year-old lock on a front door so it would match the homeowners’ new back door. The homeowners were thrilled when we were able to replace their doorbell buttons at the same time!

6.    Broken Key Replacement

Some of our favorite repairs are the trickiest ones. We had a customer who had broken their key to a car-top cargo carrier into two pieces while trying to turn its frozen lock. After contacting the manufacturers, they were told it would take a month to get a new key. We were able to give them three copies of their key for the same price as that special order while they waited.

7.    Broken Key Removal

It’s one thing to copy a broken key. But what if that key is stuck inside your lock? One customer we served had a key broken off in their trunk for more than a year. After taking it to three different locksmiths, they’d all but given up. We were able to remove the key in five minutes!

8.    Old Lock Repair

Our antique key services include saving antique locks if possible. We had a customer with an antique front door lock and knob issue they’d been putting off repairing for years. We were able to repair the lock with a piece that matched the original door hardware.
